Weirdo at the gym, party of 1!

According to the experts there really is no “training” for the AT, it’s unique and most people will just gain their trail legs the first couple weeks. So, besides an endless amount of stairstepper and inclined walking on the treadmill, the best thing to do is to prep my back and shoulders for carrying my home! I’ve started to carry bags of beans, in 5 lbs increments in my pack. I’ll gradually work my way up to my pack weight of 25lbs. That will become my new normal. I really thought the “pack workout” would be more accepted here in Colorado (more than MI anyway) but man, oh man, did I get some stares at the gym today!

    Nice, looks like you went with the Gossamer Gear Mariposa. Should be a good pack for the trip. I have the Gorilla on order, should be arriving soon.

    1. Oh man, I’ve heard good things about the Gorilla…was almost tempted myself but I just wasn’t sure I could get myself to go even lighter to get everything packed in the Gorilla. Now just to decide about the umbrella! I’ll send you an email about that.
